The Choice is Ours
Me may choose to ignore both Heaven and Hell, and the possible existence of either. Earlier in this letter, I quoted a survey that stated a full 88% of the people questioned who said they believe there is a Heaven, also believe they would be going there. This reasoning is what we want to believe, what we want to hear.
But the God who made the universe, the Earth, and mankind, is the only one who has the position and authority to make that decision. He too, desires that everyone be saved; He wants no one to be lost. But He gave us freedom of choice, so we would not be robots. There are only two places where we will keep on living forever and we will spend eternity in either one place or the other. The choice is ours.
God has revealed this information very plainly through His Word. The message has been made available through writing and through the voices of those who preach and teach from the Bible. We will make a choice in one way or the other. There is no option!
However large and pressing the questions related to our present short life on Earth, they shrink into smallness compared with the subject of death and our vast life hereafter. No matter how wise people may think they are, if they neglect to inquire about the subject of the hereafter, they are fools. Death is a stark reality. It cannot be halted. To act wisely is to face it.
There are millions of people who show little interest, and millions who are deeply concerned but misdirected through untrue teachings and errors about life after death. The Bible¾the Word of God¾is really the only authority we have. I believe it is the inspired Word of the only true and living God. And, even if you don't agree, I think it is still a source you must at least consider.
Believing that a Supreme Being created the universe and the life in it is easy and sensible. If we just evolved out of matter, how did we develop thought? How did such emotions as love, hate, hope, fear, joy, sorrow, etc., develop out of insensible matter? How did physical atoms and electrical impulses produce a moral conscience in humans? Mind is not mere matter! If we evolved, how did the amazing differences in males and females develop and become so uniquely perfect and able to reproduce life? Or for that matter, why isn't life on Earth now being replenished by more new creatures still evolving rather than by the reproductive system of a male an female?
The soul, that nonmaterial, indefinable substance which is the real you, the real me, outlives all physical change. Even though the body dies, no one has ever seen a soul die. No one has yet been able to supply evidence that the real person, the spiritual soul, actually disintegrates or has given proof that the soul does not live on forever.
A million graveyards tell us that death is man's greatest problem. Death is no respecter of humankind. The words "Till death do us part" ring out in every wedding ceremony. Sixty to seventy people per minute pass from this present life on Earth into the life hereafter. The fact that there is life after death is stated in nearly every part of the Bible.
Throughout the Bible there are two choices given to mankind as to where they will spend eternity: HEAVEN OR HELL!
